The form of Latin S arises from Greek Σ by dropping a single out from the four strokes of that letter. The (angular) S-condition composed of 3 strokes existed to be a variant of the four-stroke letter Σ already in the epigraphy of Western Greek alphabets, and the 3 and 4 strokes variants
